CATHOLICS: Peter is the rock?

Jesus is the Rock, Jesus made Peter a rock, and on that rock He built His Church. They are both Rock. The page indicates that Jesus is giving authority to the Church and appointing Peter the leader. This also is where the 2nd covenant is made. It is followed by a set of promises that the church would not fail, and it would be given the full authority that Christ Himself has. This is similar to the first covenant in which Abraham was made a father of many, his name was changed, he was given authority by God, and promises were made by God.
