Reinstatement of Windows Xp, not working right, HELP!?!?

I'm trying to reinstall Windows Xp onto my computer and I cant seem to get it to work.(personal reasons to why Im reinstalling) Anyway, I put the disc in, it dose its thing going through the process but when it gets to its second refresh to finalize everything, it will freeze on the page you see before you see the blue screen with useres names on the computer. So I refresh, and all my old settings take place and it acts like nothing happened. I tried a few different times and it wont work. What should I do? Thanks!
