How do you straighten out a plastic tablecloth?

I have a beautiful tablecloth on my dining room table that I want to keep protected from dust, pet hair, spilled food... So I thought a clear plastic tablecloth would do the trick. However, when I bought it, it was folded up and now looks all crumpled and trashy. How can I make it look better aside from taking it off?
